Cereal Bar Breakfast Party!

This Christmas we decided to do a Secret Santa exchange and the best time was during breakfast!  So we decided to go with a cereal bar!  Easiest party ever!

Using peach sundress font and bergamot ornaments font (lowercase z = the), I made a sign on a faux chalkboard background (download here) and slipped in a plastic holder from Staples.
I put plastic spoons in a mason jar and grabbed every random printed bowl I could find.  Don't have any? Try Target!
We went with classic cereals: Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Life, Cap'n Crunch, etc.
We had skim milk, 2% and of course chocolate.
For toppings we set out gummy bears, sprinkles, marshmallows, honey, dried cranberries, almonds, semi-sweet chocolate, cinnamon, bananas, and mixed berries in a mix of mason jars and small bowls.
Finally everyone got a mimosa made with love by me!

Free Sunday

I recently stumbled upon this adorable photobooth printable from Oh Happy Day!  Did I mention it's free?  Just print, glue to foam, use an exacto knife to cut, and then hot glue to wooden rods.  You can buy rods in sets of 15 for $3.99 at Michaels.  I used these for a party last week and they were a huge hit!  I stuffed them in a long vase from my kitchen and stowed them right next to the photo booth.  I made an extra batman mask, top hat and set of moustaches and good thing, because those were as predicted the most popular!

Invite Envy

Love the Sophia invite from le poetik studio on Etsy! It's perfect for an evening wedding with a hip reception at a steakhouse or downtown loft.

For $50 they will create an invitation, rsvp card, reception info card, and accomodation card plus customization and 2 revisions per card!  Once you receive the file you can print your cards online here.  This route takes a bit more DIY, but a lot less cash!

Adore this rustic invite by Borrowed & Blue Handmade Invitations on Etsy.
This is perfect for a Southern wedding (imagine Savannah, Georgia in place of Cleveland, Ohio).

Welcome Welcome Welcome

Quinn and I got these romantic welcome bags courtesy of Wedding Chicks.  Since half of our guest list hails from across the US we want to make sure we give those that are so lovingly traveling deep to the heart of Texas for our nuptials something equally thoughtful and unique.

Here is a close up of the design. You can get 20 for $100 here!
We are stuffing these with water, hangover cures - alka seltzer/aspirin, granola bars, mini liquors, chocolate, a starbucks giftcard, and a map of the area with the nearest starbucks starred.
There are also talks of adding a koozie and local Texas beer!

Quirky Maids

A trend that seems to have come out of nowhere over the past couple years is letting your maids choose their own dress!  I love love love this trend.  It solves for a myriad of issues - such as cost, style and comfort.  The one glaring issue is how to not make it look like a total cluster when they all stand beside you.
Tips on how to avoid this:
  • Pick a color palette such a pinks, jewel tones, or neutrals
  • Swing by Home Depot and pick paint strips that fit in the color palette and pass out to your maids to help with color matching when they shop.
  • Pick one fabric such as silk or select certain fabrics that pair well together like chiffon and cotton.  This will help the dresses look cohesive.
  • Decide how you feel about texture such as sequins, lace or jacquard.
  • Peruse Pinterest and sites like Style Me Pretty and Green Wedding Shoes to find examples of Bridesmaid that did it right.  Send these to your bridesmaids.  I've put a couple of my favorites below.
  • Consider finding specific dresses you like online and sending the links to your maids.  I found one of the dresses below on Nordstrom.
  • Last but not least reserve the right to veto and be available for guidance and shopping trips!

Being bridesmaid is a bit more than helping you drink champange and eat cake!  So make sure to show them some love on your special day and make them remember why they love you especially if you've been a bit crazy! Here are a few of my favorite things!

Grab some of these robes from Plum Pretty Sugar!  Perfect for getting ready on the big day and any day after!

Love these Stella & Dot Soiree Studs for $24.  I have an amazing friend who is a Stella & Dot Rep.
You can connect with her here to purchase these studs!

Stash those earrings a cute cosmetic bag. Find this one from Baby Penelope on Etsy.

Invites just got easier...

Today I discovered this site Postable.  It's an online (and private) address book.  Once you create an account it gives you a custom link to send friends and family.  When they click on the link they are taken to page to enter their Name, Address, E-mail, Phone, Birthday, and Spouse/Partner name.  You can then take that information and do multiple things with it such as export to Excel or export into label format.  This is perfect for weddings, birthdays, or any event where you will be mailing an invite.  If my family and friends actually complete this it will be a huge time saver and save me from having to send a group message where people respond with their personal information to the whole group.  Plus if there are any typos it's on them, not me!

Pretty up your silverware

Something I can't imagine many brides think about is silverware display, but it's an easy and inexpensive way to pretty up a place setting or buffet table.

Ask your invitation vendor to create silverware pouches for plasticware. This works for a buffet or a place setting and can be assembled ahead of time. As an added touch throw in a brightly colored napkin.  If you choose this option make sure it fits with the vibe of your wedding (i.e. this is great for BBQ not so much for steak).

For this one if you are crafty you will need burlap, twine, chalk, white thread, scissors, and chalkboard cloth
Fashion the burlap into a bag, sew a square of chalkboard cloth on the burlap, and tie with twine.
For those less crafty order from South House Boutique on Etsy.  I recommend this for a place setting only.

This one is the easiest of all and perfect for a buffet table!
All you need is a few small pots from any garden store. Choose colors that fit with your wedding; if in doubt choose plain clay.  For an added touch tie twine around the outside and attach a kraft tag.

This is a perfect way to decorate your place setting and thank your guests.
Work with your invitation vendor or check out Etsy vendors to create these tags.
Check with your venue/caterer to see if this is something they can do before you commit to this.

This is my favorite and works for a buffet or a place setting.  For a rustic or DIY wedding this is an ideal choice.  Get doilies, twine, and napkins (don't be afraid to be playful with color); wrap a napkin around the silverware, then wrap the doily, and tie with twine. Check with your venue/caterer to see if this is something they can do.

Place Settings!

I didn't think I would register for china, because I didn't think I could find anything
that was nice but not stuffy, trendy but not over the top.  Here is what I came up with!

Edie Rose by Rachel Bilson 4 piece set @ Macy's.
This set is unique, easy to match and functional.

To go with my blue place settings, I've registered at Crate & Barrel
for the white bark placement, cotton ecru napkin, and the Ravi napkin ring in gold.
